Henderson Assumes Leadership Role as President
of SAE International
Warrendale, PA, Feb. 22: Greg W. Henderson, P.E., an engineering director at
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, has been named 2006 president of
SAE International.
Henderson has been an active and decorated member of SAE for nearly 30 years,
having become involved with SAE as a student at Oklahoma State University.
"When you think of the ideal characteristics that you want in an SAE President,
you come up with Greg Henderson," said SAE Executive Vice President Raymond A.
Morris. "Greg brings many outstanding qualities to the position: He has been
involved with SAE since college and he has an acute understanding of the
importance and value of SAE. As a respected aerospace professional, he not only
brings his aeronautics expertise to the table, but he has a great understanding
of SAE's broader sphere of influence including the automotive sector."
Prior to being named president, Henderson served as SAE's treasurer and had been
a member of the SAE Board of Directors from 1991-1993 and from 2001-present. In
1999, he received SAE's most distinguished award, the SAE Medal of Honor.
Henderson became the first SAE White House Fellow in the Executive Office of the
President, Office of Science and Technology Policy, in 1986. While in this
position, he was a senior policy analyst in the areas of industrial
competitiveness, high-temperature superconductivity and electronics. In
addition, he chaired the White House Committee on Materials and was a member of
the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment.
"It would be a bit of an understatement to say that I'm honored to have been
named SAE president," Henderson said. "SAE plays a critical role in the
development of standards for the way we move in our world -- whether in the air
or over the highway. To be named the president of an organization that is not
only dear to my heart, but which holds such awesome responsibilities for our
society, is simply overwhelming."
Henderson earned his bachelor's degree in industrial administration from the
University of Connecticut and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from
Oklahoma State University. Henderson is a resident of Fort Worth, Texas.
