Superconductor Technologies Inc. Appoints Lynn J. Davis to Board

Santa Barbara, Calif., July 29: Superconductor Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:SCON) ("STI"), a leading provider of high performance infrastructure products for wireless voice and data applications, today announced it has appointed to its board of directors Lynn J. Davis, 58. With the addition of Mr. Davis, STI's Board is now comprised of seven members.

World-Record Magnet to Pull in Scientific Breakthroughs

Tallahassee, Fla: July 28, at 9:30 a.m., the The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, will host a commissioning ceremony to bring online a new, world-record magnet that is expected to yield important discoveries in the fields of chemical and biomedical research. Among those scheduled to speak at the ceremony are Florida State University President T.K. Wetherell; Greg Boebinger, director of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory; Win Phillips, vice president for research at the University of Florida; and representatives from the National Science Foundation. Also invited to attend are representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health, as well as members of the Tallahassee City Commission and Leon County Commission.

American Superconductor Appoints Terry Winter to Post of Chief Operating Officer

Westborough, Mass., July 28: American Superconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:AMSC), a leading electricity solutions company, today announced that Terry Winter, currently executive vice president of Advanced Grid Solutions, has been appointed by the Board of Directors to the position of chief operating officer, effective immediately. Varian, Inc. Reports Third Quarter Results

Palo ALto, Calif., July 27: Varian, Inc. (Nasdaq: VARI) today reported third quarter 2005 non-GAAP (pro forma) earnings from continuing operations of $12.9 million, or $0.38 pro forma diluted earnings per share, compared to $11.7 million, or $0.33 pro forma diluted earnings per share, in the third quarter of fiscal year 2004. On a GAAP basis, earnings from continuing operations in the third quarter of fiscal year 2005 were $10.5 million, or $0.31 diluted earnings per share, compared to $11.0 million, or $0.31 diluted earnings per share, in the third quarter of fiscal year 2004.

Intermagnetics' Chairman & CEO To Increase Personal Holdings By More Than 30,000 Shares, CFO By More Than 15,000 Shares

Latham, NY, July 27: Intermagnetics General Corporation (Nasdaq: IMGC), today announced that Chairman and CEO Glenn H. Epstein plans to increase his direct ownership of Intermagnetics' common stock by 31,500 shares through retention of shares that have vested from the company's performance-based restricted stock program. Intermagnetics Reports Record Revenues, Earnings

Latham, NY, July 27: Intermagnetics General Corporation (Nasdaq: IMGC), today reported that fourth-quarter normalized net income increased to $8.1 million, or $0.29 per diluted share-excluding acquisition and integration-related expenses and certain other non-cash items. Reported net income for the quarter ended May 29, 2005, was $3.4 million, or $0.12 per diluted share. Fourth-quarter net sales were $78.1 million, compared with $52.4 million in the fiscal 2004 fourth quarter, excluding discontinued operations from the divested Polycold subsidiary.

VSM MedTech Awarded Contract to Provide Fetal MEG System to University of Tübingen

Vancouver, British Columbia, July 13: VSM MedTech Ltd. (TSX:VSM), a leading supplier of magnetoencephalography (MEG) systems for noninvasive imaging of brain function, today announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide a 151-channel fetal MEG (fMEG) investigational device to the Eberhard-Karls University of Tübingen.  The fMEG system, which will be housed at the Women's Clinic of the University's Gynecology Department, is expected to be installed in the second quarter of 2006 and will be the first fMEG system installed in Europe.

These nanoscale superconductor/semiconductor devices enable the fabrication of new nanoscale superconducting electronic circuits and at the same time they provide new opportunities for the study of fundamental quantum transport phenomena.

China Builds Experimental Fusion Reactor

Beijing, Jul 1: China is building a small fusion reactor to experiment in the production of clean energy, said the Xinhua news agency quoting a leading Chinese scientist on Friday.  EAST (Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak) is the name of the project, scheduled for completion by the end of the year at a cost of nearly 25 million US dollars.  more>>
