Varian, Inc. Reports Third Quarter 2007 Results
Palo Alto, CA, 25 July 2007:  Varian, Inc. (Nasdaq: VARI) today reported that revenues for the third quarter of fiscal year 2007 increased 8.3% from the third quarter of fiscal year 2006. The increase was driven by solid growth in sales of Scientific Instruments products for industrial applications. Demand was strong within Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America, and while still soft, North America showed sequential improvement. Revenues were $227.1 million in the third quarter of fiscal year 2007, compared to $209.7 million in the third quarter of fiscal year 2006.

AMSC Receives New $70 Million Order from China's Sinovel Wind
Westborough, MA, 24 July 2007:   American Superconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: AMSC)
, a leading energy technologies company, today announced that it has received a follow-on $70 million order for wind turbine electrical systems from Beijing-based Sinovel Wind Corporation Limited. The order calls for AMSC's wholly-owned subsidiary, AMSC Windtec, to ship the customized electrical systems to Sinovel in 2008 for use in Sinovel's 1.5 megawatt (MW) wind energy systems. AMSC Windtec turbine electrical systems provide reliable, high-performance wind turbine operation by controlling power flows, regulating voltage and controlling the pitch of wind turbine blades to maximize efficiency.

AMSC Announces Pricing of Public Offering of Common Stock
Westborough, MA, 20 July 2007:   American Superconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: AMSC)
today announced the pricing of an underwritten public offering of 4,700,000 shares of its common stock at a price to the public of $21.25 per share, before underwriting discounts and commissions. AMSC also granted the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional 705,000 shares of common stock. All of the shares are being offered by AMSC. The offering is expected to close on or about July 25, 2007, subject to customary closing conditions.

, The Inventor of MR Scanning(TM), reported today that the company has sold Seven UPRIGHT(TM) Multi-Position(TM) MRIs during the previous two weeks. By contrast, since this year began, sales by other MRI manufacturers have declined, with one major company reporting a quarterly imaging sales decline including MRI of $150 million.

Ames, Iowa, 6 July 2007:   Like the surface motif of a bubble bath, the spatial distribution of a magnetic field penetrating a superconductor can exhibit an intricate, foam-like structure. Ruslan Prozorov at the U.S.Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory has observed these mystifying, two-dimensional equilibrium patterns in lead samples when the material is in its superconducting state, below 7.2 Kelvin, or minus 446.71 degrees Fahrenheit.

UNH Researchers Prove Existence Of New Type Of Electron Wave
Durham, NH, 5 July 2007:   New research led by University of New Hampshire physicists has proved the existence of a new type of electron wave on metal surfaces: the acoustic surface plasmon, which will have implications for developments in nano-optics, high-temperature superconductors, and the fundamental understanding of chemical reactions on surfaces. The research, led by Bogdan Diaconescu and Karsten Pohl of UNH, is published in the July 5 issue of the journal “Nature.”

  The Neutron Scattering Science Division at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory has announced a call for proposals for experiments at both the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS). This call includes six HFIR instruments and three at SNS.

Breakthrough in Accelerator Physics: Crab cavities are operated successfully for the first time
Tsukuba, Japan, 3 July 2007:   A team of accelerator physicists at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) in Tsukuba, Japan, has achieved effective head-on collisions of electrons and positrons using new superconducting devices called "crab cavities" during the spring operation period of the KEKB accelerator. This success will pave the way to increase KEKB's luminosity, which is already the world highest, to an unprecedented level.
