American Superconductor PowerModule Electronic Converters to Be Utilized in Fuel Cell System for Hybrid Electric Bus

 

Westborough, Mass., Sept. 28: American Superconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:AMSC), a leading electricity solutions company, today announced that it has received an order from Hydrogenics Corporation (NASDAQ:HYGS), a global fuel cell developer and manufacturer. The order for three PowerModule(TM) PM1000 power electronic converters follows Hydrogenics' initial trials with AMSC's PowerModule PM1000 Developer Kit (PDK). The PM1000 power converters will be utilized in the propulsion system for a full size, forty foot, transit bus to be initially demonstrated in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The bus will be the first in Canada to be powered by a hybrid configuration of fuel cells and ultra capacitors.

Intermagnetics Reports Strong Q1 Revenue, Net Income

Latham, N.Y., Sept. 28: Intermagnetics General Corporation (NASDAQ:IMGC) , today reported the first-quarter normalized net income from operations climbed to $6.1 million, or $0.21 per diluted share, from $4.3 million, or $0.16 per diluted share, a year earlier. Reported net income increased to $5.1 million, or $0.18 per diluted share, from $3.4 million or $0.13 per diluted share. Revenues for the quarter ended August 28, 2005, rose to just over $71 million from $51.5 million.

Cray XT3 System Performs Record Simulation Related to ITER Project

 

Seattle, WA, Sept. 20: Using a powerful new Cray XT3™ supercomputer, the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has run the world's fastest, most-detailed simulation of waves used to control plasma -- gaseous matter superheated enough to generate massive amounts of energy. The simulation is related to the multibillion-dollar ITER project, which aims to tame plasma so it can later become a virtually inexhaustible supply of electricity.

Canadian Mining Facility Orders Three D-VAR Systems from American Superconductor

Westborough, MA, Sept. 20: American Superconductor Corporation, a leading electricity solutions company, today announced a new order for three D-VAR (Dynamic VAR) systems. The D-VAR systems will be installed in a Canadian mining facility of a globally recognized company. The D-VAR systems, each of which is rated at 12 mega-volt-amperes reactive (MVAR), will manage demanding voltage conditions to improve the reliability and quality of electric power needed to increase industrial productivity. American Superconductor expects to ship the D-VAR systems in the third and fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2006.

Sept. 19: More than fifty U.S. and Canadian industries that specialize in the development and manufacturing of complex components for particle accelerators will meet with scientists and engineers on 21-22 September at the first International Linear Collider Industrial Forum hosted by the Linear Collider Forum of America at the Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.

Brookhaven National Laboratory Substrate Roughness Improves Critical Current in YBCO Coated Conductor

 

Upton, NY, Sept. 15:  Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory have discovered a way to significantly increase the amount of electric current carried by a high-temperature superconductor, a material that conducts electricity with no resistance. This is an important step in the drive to create superconductor-based electric and power-delivery devices, such as power transmission lines, motors, and generators. The results are explained in the September 12, 2005, online edition of Applied Physics Letters.

Intermagnetics Expands Bank Credit Facility to $200 Million, Extends Share Buyback Program to 2.5 Million Shares

Latham, NY, Sept. 6:  Intermagnetics General Corporation announced today that it has increased its existing syndicated credit facility from $130 million to $200 million with expanded commitments from Wachovia Bank as principal agent, JP Morgan Chase, KeyBank and Comerica. The company also announced that its Board of Directors has authorized the resumption of a previously approved stock buyback program and has expanded it to repurchase up to a total of 2.5 million shares of common stock. The company will seek to utilize this authorization over the next two years.
