D-VAR(R) for Connection of Pacific Northwest Wind Farm to Electric Transmission Grid To Be Supplied By American Superconductor and GE Energy

Westborough, MA, Oct. 31:  American Superconductor Corporation , a leading electricity solutions company, and GE Energy, a business of the General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), received an order for two D-VAR(R) systems for the Wild Horse Wind Farm project located near Puget Sound in Washington. This solution will help meet the grid interconnection requirements of the wind farm. GE Energy is responsible for installation of the D-VAR systems into the wind farm project.

Dan Luss, University of Houston, Recipient of American Institute of Chemical Engineers Award for Outstanding Contributions


Houston, TX, Oct. 26:  From avoiding explosions in chemical reactors to developing more economical methods for natural gas conversion, nearly 40 years of research by one University of Houston professor has garnered him one of the highest honors given in the field of chemical engineering.
Some of his research projects are concerned with increasing the efficiency of chemical processes and of the large-scale synthesis of advanced ceramics, such as superconducting materials.

KEK Requests Candidate Recommendations for the Position of the Next Director General

Tsukuba, Japan, Oct. 25:  KEK, the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization, welcomes recommendation of the candidates for the next Director-General whose term will begin April 2006.  KEK is an Inter-University Research Institute Corporation open to domestic and international researchers, and is comprised of the Institute of Particle and Nuclear Studies, the Institute of Materials Structure Science , the Accelerator Laboratory, and the Applied Research Laboratory. KEK pursues a wide range of research activities based on accelerators, such as particle and nuclear physics, material sciences, biosciences, accelerator physics and engineering, etc.

American Superconductor Selects Japanese Distributor for Second Generation High Temperature Superconductors

Suzuki Shokan Co. Ltd. to sell 344 Superconductors in Growing Japanese market

 

Tsukuba, Japan, Oct. 24:  American Superconductor Corporation announced at the 18th International Symposium on Superconductivity today that it has selected Suzuki Shokan Co. Ltd. as its distribution partner for 344 superconductors in the Japanese market.  Japan represents one of the world's largest markets for superconductor wires for applications in the power transmission, industrial, medical and transportation sectors.  The Japanese government has recently increased funding for the development of products that utilize second generation (2G) high temperature superconductor (HTS) wires.  American Superconductor's "344 superconductors" are 2G HTS wires that have enhanced performance and properties in industry standard HTS wire dimensions.

Superconductive Components, Inc. Completes Private Equity Financing

Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 19:   Superconductive Components, Inc., a manufacturer of ceramics and metals for advanced applications in batteries, photonic/optical, and high temperature superconductive products, today announced the successful completion of a private equity financing. The company received $1,386,000 in cash for 693,000 shares of the Company's common stock at a price of $2 per share and five-year warrants to purchase an additional 173,250 shares of common stock at $3 per share.

American Superconductor Awarded New Government Contracts for High Temperature Superconductor Wire Development

Westborough, Mass., Oct. 19:  American Superconductor Corporation, a leading electricity solutions company, today announced the company has been awarded three new government contracts for second generation (2G) high temperature superconductor (HTS) wire and applications development. These contracts, which have a total value of $1.35 million, were funded under the Department of Defense's Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer Program (STTR), and are expected to be completed during the next two years.

Schenectady, NY, Oct. 18: Intermagnetics General Corporation’s Energy Technology subsidiary, SuperPower, Inc., with its partners Sumitomo Electric Industries of Osaka , Japan , The BOC Group of Murray Hill , New Jersey , and National Grid of Westborough , MA , announced today that the Albany HTS Cable Project was ranked No. 1 at the 2005 Annual Peer Review of U.S. Department of Energy sponsored projects in the Superconductivity Partnerships with Industry program. The report cited that “this project is progressing well at all levels: cables, cryogenics, dielectrics and utility operations.”

Tenajon Resources Corp.: Ajax Molybdenum Property Drill Results in Higher than Historic Grades

Vancouver, B.C., Oct. 17: Tenajon Resources Corp. is pleased to announce the final results from this summer's drilling program at its Ajax molybdenum Property, located in northwestern British  Columbia. The 2005 drill program was successful in determining that the historically estimated grade of the deposit could be increased using large, HQ and NQ-2 sized drill core and that the zones extended vertically beyond previous drill holes.

Toshiba Announces 200th Installation of Vantage MRI System at Arango Imaging Center; Milestone Marks Broad Product Adoption in Only Two Years

El Paso, TX, Oct 13: The leader in advanced imaging technology, Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. (TAMS) today announced the 200th installation worldwide of the Vantage -- a 1.5-tesla (1.5T) high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system equipped with an ultra-short, ultra-wide bore that delivers more patient-friendly exams and high-performance applications. The 200th installation occurred at Arango Imaging Center, an advanced outpatient imaging facility in El Paso, Texas. Arango Imaging Center is one of the first sites in the country to receive the Vantage MRI with the new Version 7 software, which improves acquisition speed, image quality and detail.

BOC Helium Plant Celebrates 40th Anniversary; World's First Plant to Produce Bulk Quantities of Liquid Helium

 

Murray Hill, N.J., Oct. 12:  In 1965, helium party balloons were only available to the rich and famous, and a technology known as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which requires liquid helium to be able to take pictures inside our bodies, was still just a theory in scientists' minds. In October of that year, a plant capable of producing liquid helium in larger quantities than ever before, came online in Otis, Kansas, and helped support a cultural and scientific revolution. BOC will be commemorating the 40th anniversary of its Otis plant this month by hosting a series of events for employees and invited guests.

Metal Oxide Technologies Seeks to Accelerate Superconducting Capability with ORNL Help

Oak Ridge, TN, Oct. 6, 2005: An effort to transmit 150 times more electric power through long-length high-temperature superconductors as compared to conventional copper wire is the goal of a cooperative research and development agreement between the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Metal Oxide Technologies (MetOx) of Houston.

Success for Air Liquide in Research Market: KSTAR Contract in South Korea in Scientific Cryogenics


South Korea, Oct. 6:  Mastering nuclear fusion offers the potential of responding to one of the major challenges of the 21st century in a context of increasing worldwide energy requirements and the preservation of natural resources. In particular, it allows the production of electrical energy. The Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI), is planning the creation of an experimental reactor designed to improve knowledge and mastery of thermonuclear fusion reactions.  By the end of 2007, Air Liquide will implement a high-technology system that consists of a helium refrigerator ensuring the installation maintains a temperature of –269°C.

Tallahassee, FL, Oct 6:  It's a major coup for Florida State University - and one that holds significant potential for breakthroughs in a variety of scientific endeavors. "It" is Florida State 's new Applied Superconductivity Center (ASC), which soon will be setting up shop in Tallahassee 's Innovation Park , near the Florida A&M University-FSU College of Engineering and across the street from the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, with which it will join forces.

Superconductor Technologies Inc. Common Stock to be Traded on the NASDAQ Capital Market Beginning October 5th

Santa Barbara, CA, Oct. 4:   Superconductor Technologies Inc.  (NASDAQ:SCON) (STI), a leading provider of high performance infrastructure products for wireless voice and data applications, today announced that the NASDAQ Stock Market accepted STI's application to transfer its common stock listing from the NASDAQ National Market System to the NASDAQ Capital Market. Effective with the open of business on October 5, 2005, STI's common stock will trade on the Nasdaq Capital Market under its current symbol "SCON." There will be no change in the way STI shares are traded as a result of the listing transfer, and the transfer will not have any effect on shareholders' ability to purchase and sell their common stock.
