American Superconductor Names John Ulliman Vice President of Business Development and Government Relations

Westborough, MA, October 11:  American Superconductor Corporation (Nasdaq:AMSC), a leading energy technologies company, announced today that it has named John M. Ulliman as its Vice President of Business Development and Government Relations.  In this role, Ulliman, 50, will be responsible for defining, pursuing and winning foreign and domestic contracts across all of AMSC's businesses units, including development contracts and product procurement contracts.

Ulliman joins American Superconductor from Northrop Grumman Corporation.  In his 13 years with the company, he served in various managerial capacities and most recently was Northrop Grumman's Corporate Director of Enterprise Campaigns.  From 2004 to 2005, Ulliman served as the company's Director of the Integrated Power Systems Program and was responsible for program management, system design, land based testing and ship integration of the new electric power system for the U.S. Navy's DDG 1000 (formerly known as DDX) class of destroyers.  American Superconductor is in the process of finalizing for the U.S. Navy a 36.5 MW (49,000 horsepower) high temperature superconductor (HTS) propulsion motor, which is sized for DDG 1000 hulls.

"John is an outstanding addition to AMSC's leadership team," said Greg Yurek, chief executive officer and founder of American Superconductor.  "His in-depth military and government knowledge and extensive list of contacts will be a tremendous resource to us in the years ahead as we continue to develop and commercialize our HTS wire and value-added applications.  We believe John will quickly prove his value at American Superconductor and look forward to his contributions."

Prior to joining Northrop Grumman in 1993, Ulliman served as Manager of Planning and Business Development at General Electric's Astro Space Division (now Lockheed Martin) and Manager of Marketing and Programs at B.F. Goodrich Aerospace.  He began his career at General Electric Company with marketing and sales responsibilities for the company's marine and industrial power generation and distribution systems.  Ulliman earned a BS in engineering from Purdue University.
