American Superconductor and Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute Announce Strategic Business Alliance

Westborough, MA, October 31, 2006:  American Superconductor Corporation (Nasdaq:AMSC), a leading energy technologies company, announced today the signing of a strategic business alliance with the Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute (SECRI).  SECRI is the leading research, development and standardization institution for China's wire and cable industry and is one of two centers that test and certify power cables for China.

A Wellcome brain gain for world leading neuroscience lab
London, UK, October 27:  One of the world's foremost brain imaging research facilities has received a major boost after being awarded £6.74 million funding over five years by the Wellcome Trust. The former Functional Imaging Laboratory at University College London (UCL) is the recipient of a Wellcome Trust Strategic Award and becomes the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging at UCL.

American Superconductor Wins New U.S. Navy Contract for HTS Motor Design and Optimization

Zenergy Power Announces Hydro-Generator Collaborative Project with E.ON Wasserkraft GmbH
London, UK, October 23:  Zenergy Power plc (AIM:ZEN.L), the specialist manufacturer and developer of commercial applications for superconductive materials, is pleased to announce that following an extensive period of collaboration, E.ON Wasserkraft GmbH has elected to install the world's first high temperature superconductor hydro-generator in its commercial hydroelectric power station based at Hirschaid in Bavaria, Germany. The development and installation of the 1.25 MW generator is to be part funded by the European Commission.

LIFE-Environment 2006 Commission funds Superconducting Fault Current Limiter Project
Brussels, Belgium, October 19: The European Commission has approved funding for 50 new environmental innovation projects in 14 countries under the LIFE-Environment programme 2006.  In Germany, “INES-110” will develop and demonstrate a superconducting fault current limiter prototype for the European high-voltage grids (90-123 kV), and as an intermediate step, for the medium voltage grids (10-30 kV).

University of Illinois explains superconductivity in nanowires

Champaign, IL, October 18:  Superconducting wires are used in magnetic resonance imaging machines, high-speed magnetic-levitation trains, and in sensitive devices that detect variations in the magnetic field of a brain. Eventually, ultra-narrow superconducting wires might be used in power lines designed to carry electrical energy long distances with little loss.

VSM Medtech Delists Shares from TSX

Vancouver, British Columbia, October 17: VSM MedTech Ltd. (the “Company”), announces that effective October 17, 2006, its common shares have been delisted from the TSX at the Company’s request.  Given the Company’s significant historic losses, management has determined that the ongoing cost of maintaining the Company’s listing is no longer justified.

Westborough, MA, October 10:  American Superconductor Corporation (Nasdaq:AMSC), a leading energy technologies company, announced today it has received a follow-on order for 450 PowerModule(TM) PM1000 systems from Windtec Systemtechnik GmbH (Windtec). Windtec, based in Austria, is a developer and licensor of proprietary wind turbine system designs and a developer and supplier of wind turbine electrical systems. Windtec will package the PowerModule systems with other electronic components for one of China's largest domestic wind turbine manufacturers.

AMSC Receives Second Quarter Orders for Nearly 150,000 Meters of 1G HTS Wire
Westborough, MA, October 3:  American Superconductor Corporation (Nasdaq:AMSC), a leading energy technologies company, announced today that it has received an order for first generation (1G) high temperature superconductor (HTS) wire from the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI). KERI, based in Changwon, South Korea, will utilize 22,000 meters of 1G wire to begin a 10-year project focused on developing superconductor magnetic energy storage (SMES) systems. This project is being funded by South Korea's Ministry of Science and Technology.

SC Power Systems enters into U.S Department of Energy Funded Project
San Mateo, CA, October 2:  Zenergy Power Plc, the specialist manufacturer and developer of commercial applications for superconductive materials, is pleased to announce that its U.S. subsidiary, SC Power Systems Inc, has entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with Sandia National Laboratories (‘SNL’) which is to be jointly funded by the U.S. Department of Energy through SNL.
