Chalmers University of Technology Develops HTS d-Wave
Josephson Junction
Researchers at the Department of Quantum Device Physics,
Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2) at Chalmers
University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden have
shown, reportedly for the first time, that Josephson
junctions made using high-Tc superconductors can display
quantized energy levels. The work opens up the
possibility of using HTS devices to develop solid state
based superconducting quantum circuitry. The
demonstration of energy level quantization was achieved
in a d-wave Josephson junction fabricated using a
novel
method for making YBCO junctions developed by
Floriana Lombardi, Assistant Professor at Chalmers, and
her colleagues at the University of Naples several years
ago.
